PINEAPPLE BLOCK

Lately I've been working on what my evening guild
is planning for the year for Block of the Month.
The guild is learning on how to do the Log Cabin block
in many different ways.

Yesterday I learned how to piece the Pineapple block in a new way.
So here are the directions for making this block.

Cutting Chart
Center Square
(1) 3 5/8" square

Background
(2) 3 1/2" squares
(4) 2 1/8" x 6 1/4"
(4) 2 1/8" x 7 1/2"
(4) 2 1/8" x 9"

Color One and Color Two
(2) 2 1/8" x 6 1/4"
(2) 2 1/8" x 7 1/2"
(2) 2 1/8" x 9"
(1) 7 1/2" square cut on one diagonal

My fabric already cut and prepared to make the block.

Cut the two 3 1/2" background squares on
one diagonal to make four triangles.

Sew one triangle to opposite sides of the 3 5/8 center square.
Press the seams away from the center and trim the tips.
Add the remaining two triangles and press the seams away from the center.

Center to 5" square

Sew the 2 1/8" x 6 1/4" to the opposite sides of the center patch.
The same colors are opposite from each other.
Press away from the center and trim.

Center the second set of strips and sew.
Press away from the center.
You will square it to seven inches.

I used a 12" square ruler to square to 7".
Place the ruler on the diagonal.
Match the points of the center square with the line on the ruler.
I used the 1/4" mark as a placement guide.
Trim the top corners.

Repeat the same process on the other end.
This is the method I used for squaring all the rounds.
After trimming, the block will look like this.

 Sew the 2 1/8" x 6 1/4" background strips to the
all four sides of the block.

This block will be squared to 8 1/8".
Using the 12" square ruler to square 8 1/8" on
the diagonal. Trim the top corners following
the placement guide for the corners.
You will do the same process on the other end.

Sew 2 1/8" x 7 1/2" strips to the sides of the block.
Square the block to 10 3/8".

 Sew 2 1/8" x 7 1/2" background strips to
all four sides of the block.
Square the block to 11 1/2" square.

Sew 2 1/8" x 9" color strips to the sides of the block.
Square the block to 13 1/2".  I used a 12" x 24"
ruler on the outside edge of this last round
as a guide for the trimming.

Adding the corners take the 7 1/2" squares
and cut on the diagonal one time.
Sew the triangles on each corner to complete it.
Square the block to 16 1/2"

I made a pillow out of the block.
It has been fun learning new
methods for tried and true blocks.
