SPRING CLEANING: ORGANIZE YOUR SEWING ROOM

It's that time of the year where I am so ready to sweep "winter" away and welcome Spring.  Spring cleaning my sewing room is a very good idea.  So I'm sharing with you ideas about organizing your sewing/craft room.  These ideas come from the website www.allpeoplequilt.com.  May these ideas inspire you too as they have me.

Create a sewing corner anywhere in your house with a work surface and storage. For a colorful inspiration board, glue a fabric remnant to a magnetic chalkboard. Slide a woven basket under a desk to hold fabric scraps, and place a small wire shelving unit in the corner to stash larger pieces.

To expand your storage area in a colorful way, paint pegboard and mount it above stock cabinetry. Hang shelves, hooks, and containers from the pegboard to keep supplies within reach. For an easy place to stash fabric swatches and other bits of inspiration, add clipboards to the pegboard.

Pretty fabric panels hide this space’s hardest worker: a closet lined with assemble-yourself storage components. These stackable boxes and drawers organize everything from fabric to notions. Pegboard puts even the smallest wall space to work stowing tools and essentials so they are orderly yet within reach. Best of all, you can close the panels to conceal the creative clutter.

Decorate boring drawers with pieces of punchy wallpaper. Stash buttons, ribbons, and other notions in vintage candy dishes for easy-to-rifle-through storage.

Utilize shelf labels to identify stacks of sorted quilting fabrics and house notions and supplies in the 18 spice drawers. The drawer pulls, designed to hold labels, ensure that everything can be easily found and easily returned to the proper place.

Mount cafe rods on a wall or the side of a cabinet to make great hangers for fat quarters. Organize fabric by color or by designer to make finding the perfect piece a breeze.

For visible storage, line up jars housing small embellishments and notions in a spice rack.

Make a simple storage container out of a toolbox to take your must-have supplies on a vacation or retreat. Separate notions and other supplies into the compartments in the tray and hide fabric and scissors in the larger space underneath.

Store small craft items, including clear jars of ribbons, beads, and buttons, in a shallow hanging cupboard and slide rolls of fabric out of the way behind finials on top.
