MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURES - GROUSELAND MANSION

Sorry that it has taken me a while to finish writing about our coming
home from our last motorcycle adventure.  On the last day of our journey,
we traveled to Princeton, Indiana to visit the parents of really good friends.
What was supposed to have been a thirty minute visit turned out to
be an hour and a half.  We could not leave because she had made
a delicious coffeecake and coffee.  We just had to try some.

Our dear friends, Marjorie and J.D.

Their very happy dog named Louie.

After leaving our friends, we started on our trek towards
Vincennes.  We both wanted to go and check out the
historical places there.  Our first stop was the Grouseland Masion
built William Henry Harrison.  Our tour guide was
absolutely awesome!  The sad part was that
photographs were not allowed inside.  So
I've linked the mansion's website for you to see the inside.

An old house that is a radio station.
I'm so glad it was not torn down.

Another beautiful old home in Vincennes.

Our trip was wonderful and we really enjoyed it.
We are most definitely heading back to Vincennes.

MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE SUNDAY - HEADING SOUTH

We started our day with something we did not expect - a dead battery.
As I was getting our keys turned in I get a phone call from
Jorge asking me to find out if anyone on staff has jumper cables.
Thankfully one of the caretakers did and he was our knight in shining armor.

Once it was the battery was charged, we head on down to Nashville.
We stopped at several shops that I wanted to see.  I exercised
a lot of self-control.  Considering that we are riding a motorcycle,
space is limited as to what I can buy and take home.

Bruce helps Jorge recharge the battery
A candy store in Nashville.  So much to choose from.

We are back in Story, Indiana for lunch.
We found this place last year by accident.
 Great musicians during our lunch.

 The Ohio River
Since there are many barges going down the Ohio River,
we saw these locks at Cannelton, Indiana.
Perry County Historical Musuem.

As the day went on, it got cooler.  We stopped at Wal-Mart
and bought the cheaper version of Under Armor to keep us warmer
so that we wouldn't have to wear our fleece jackets under
our motorcycle jackets.  Needless to say, I was colder
without my fleece.  By the time we got to Evansville,
I was very cold.  Tomorrow I'll be using my fleece again.

MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURES SATURDAY - HEADING SOUTH

Jorge and I wanted to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary
doing a motorcycle trip.  Our anniversary was in August
but neither one of us had any desire to go on a trip during August.
We decided that we wanted to wait and wait we did until the weather was right.
We decided to head south towards the Ohio River.
Our first day's right started Saturday afternoon.
The weather was cool and sunny.
We start heading south and come to Nashville, Indiana.
Our first night was spent at the Abe Martin Lodge in one of their cabins.

The lodge beautifully decorated for the fall season.
 Our little cabin,
 One interesting pumpkin
We found out this gentleman comes to the Little Gem Restaurant every Saturday
and sings without getting paid.  He accepts tips.  We really
enjoyed him.  Jorge made the comment that the singer/musician
did not sing a sour note at all.

 This old radio still works.
 Beautiful carving of three eagles.
A unique Grandfather clock.

REDBUD QUILT GUILD

The first Thursday of the month I go to my guild's meeting.
It is always an enjoyable time.  One of the highlights
of the meeting is the Show and Tell.
Below are the pictures of the Show and Tell.
All I can say is that the ladies in the guild are very talented!

Several of the ladies that took the Feathered Star class
brought their quilts they finished.

 A wonderful sampler quilt.

 Mariner's Compass quilt

This spider is on the above quilt.  Sandy made the spider
and sewed it on the quilt.  It was really cute.

QUILTERS HALL OF FAME WWII QUILT EXHIBIT

The director for the Quilters Hall of Fame located in Marion, Indiana
is a friend of mine.  Many weeks ago she told me about the
new exhibit they were preparing for and she asked me
if I was interested in coming and helping hang the quilts.
I immediately said YES!

The collection of WWII quilts belongs to Sue Reich.
Between 1941-1945, women were busy working in the
defense industries, planting Victory gardens,
and keeping the home fires burning.
These quilts, made while their sons, husbands, brothers,
and loved ones were in the battlefront, have
been packed away in attics and trunks for 60 years.
This exhibit honors the bravery and sacrifice
of the  men and women.
The exhibit of these quilts will be from
October 4th to December 8th.

The museum's address is:
926 South Washington Street
Marion, IN
www.quiltershalloffame.net
Thursday through Saturday, 10-3

I'm helping here holding one of the signature quilts.
We're measuring walls to make sure the quilts will fit properly.
Choosing which quilts were going to go on which walls.
A crazy quilt made for the American Red Cross
One of the ladies that was helping brought her father's
Merchant Marine's uniform.  He joined when he was 17 years old.
This quilt is called "Three Cheers" which was signed and dated in 1942 - 1943.
The quilter is unknown.  This pattern was first published in 1942
in the Farm Journal.
The V symbol for victory was popularized during WWII
by Sir Winston Churchill.

CAMPFIRE SKILLET BREAKFAST

One of the things I enjoy doing is cooking.
I've been making breakfasts for my husband for many years.
As a matter of fact, I enjoy cooking for my family and friends.

The recipe I want to share with you was pretty easy to make.
It originally is one you would make camping but that
should not stop you from making it at home.

Ingredients - Serves 4

  • 1/4 pound sliced bacon
  • 2 cups potatoes, peeled and cubed (I use red potatoes and don't even peel them)
  • 1/4 onion, chopped (optional)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Cook bacon to desired crispness in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Remove bacon from the skillet and set aside. Stir the potatoes and onion into the hot bacon fat. Cover, and cook until the potatoes are soft, about 10 to 12 minutes.
  2. Crumble the bacon into the potatoes. Stir in the eggs, cover, and cook until set through, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle with the cheese, and allow to melt before serving.
ENJOY!

GRILLED SAUSAGE WITH POTATOES AND GREEN BEANS

October is here!  The cooler autumn weather brings out
my favorite recipes.  I want to share a recipe that I had
made for today's dinner.  It's also great to use when you go camping.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1/2 pound red potatoes, quartered
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1/3 cup water

Directions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.
  2. On a large sheet of foil, place the green beans, red potatoes, onion, and sausage. Season with salt and pepper, sprinkle with oil, and top with butter. Tightly seal foil around the ingredients, leaving only a small opening. Pour water into the opening, and seal.
  3. Place foil packet on the prepared grill. Cook 20 to 30 minutes, turning once, until sausage is browned and vegetables are tender.
Instead of cooking out on the grill, I used my cast iron skillet instead of the aluminum foil.  I covered it with a lid and cooked it for 20 to 30 minutes stirring several times.  It turned it really good.  Enjoy!
